Wrench — Location, Uses, and Why It Matters

The Wrench is the first melee weapon you pick up in Tenebris Somnia. It also unlocks several paths and missable achievements.

1. Start the run on Floor 3 in Iván's apartment.
2. Walk to the bathroom — the blue door next to the Devora poster.
3. Pick up the Wrench from the bathroom at the very start of the run.

1. Equip it as your default melee weapon for early combat.
2. Use it to break boarded windows, including the boarded window that opens into the candle-room arena for Obscuratus.
3. Use it to test the bar-pitch tone in the Floor 3 bottle puzzle — hit the giant glass pitcher with the Wrench to compare its tone to the bell.
4. Use it to crack the Cinema Class window glass on Floor 1.

The Wrench ties two missable achievements, and committing to it rules out other weapon achievements:

• Iron and wax — defeat Obscuratus (1st boss, candle room) using only the Wrench. See Obscuratus fight.
• Wrench Queen — complete the game using only the Wrench. No shooting or aiming other weapons at any time.

These two achievements cannot be combined with Exhaust Pipe (Pipe-only Fumus) — you must commit to one melee weapon for an entire run. The trade-off is on the combat strategy page; the full list of conflicting achievements is on achievements.
